Unfortunately Israel's actions this year will have shown Iran that the protection offered it by being part of the western diplomatic process is not good enough, and they need a credible physical deterrent to prevent Israeli aggression. No-one's invading North Korea or Pakistan.

And they are quite rightly very suspicious that the 'inspectors' included Israeli spies that gave Israel valuable intel for attacking these nuclear sites.

I know Israel and Iran are at each other's throats, but why are these specific EU states so adamant about Iran's nuclear programme? Iran's surrounding states (barring Israel), which also dislike Iran, don't seem to be nearly as concerned. What would they meaningfully achieve? I can't see it getting through the Security Council.

So Trump tore up the earlier 2015 agreement and reinstates sanctions during his first term and then during his second term Israel attacks Iran's cities and nuclear facilities (with Trump boasting about US involvement) while the EU stayed quiet, refusing to condemn Israel's dangerous aggression, and now they expect Iran to remain compliant?


Every country has seen what happens when they give up their nuclear program - just ask Ukraine how far US security assurances go, or ask Libya and Iraq what happens when you give up your weapons and programs.


Don't get me wrong, the Iranian government is beyond awful and a non insignificant number of Iranian citizens would rather have their government change, though with less bombing and bloodshed involved. With that said, if you tear up an earlier agreement, impose new sanctions, then bomb a country, don't be shocked that they don't remain in compliance with the original agreement.


If Europe wants Iran to comply, then they need to pressure the US to come back to the table and put a muzzle and leash on Israel. If Europe wants to lead, then they need to do so and not keep letting others do the dirty work for them. With the US government being belligerent and run by a bunch of circus clown rejects, now is the time for Europe to assert itself. They can't just sit back and wait for the US to return to normalcy, it ain't happening for a while.


This is the perfect opportunity to break from this US hegemony. Europe is perfectly happy to let the US project power since it means they won't have to spend anything on defense, but it's time to move away from this considering how unstable and unreliable America is.


(Lastly, a giant fuck you to the government of Iran for supplying Russia with drones that's getting used against Ukraine - and I say this as someone who has both parents from Iran and still has relatives over there. None of us want this being done in our names.)
